TRONA is the desert operation's oldest facility, dating back to 1916. Since then, it has been expanded and updated many times. Using economies of scale, the plant process includes a patented solvent extraction method to recover boric acid from weak Searles Lake brines. In addition, anhydrous borax (PYROBOR®) containing low sulfate values and borax decahydrate are produced at this facility.
